An
experienced Geotechnical Engineer who has spent over thirty five years
in Specialist Contracting. He has been responsible for the design
and installation of over 100,000 anchors. In the 1980's he developed
a double plastic corrosion protection system for ground anchor tendons.
Later, he led the development of a multiple anchor system, which
has more than doubled the working capacity of anchors in soils and
weak rocks. He also invented an anchor system with totally removable
strands such that on a recent contract 100 kilometre of strand was
withdrawn from 500 soil anchors each with two hundred tonne temporary
working load.
More recently he has researched and patented a new Carbon Fibre Tendon Multiple Anchor System and the long-awaited Actively Stressed Soil Nail.
He served on the British Standard Institute Committee during preparation
of the Code of Practice for Ground Anchorages, and subsequently
chaired the Working Group for three years in preparation of
the "European Standard for Execution of Special Geotechnical Works
- Ground Anchors" EN1537. He represented the UK as 'Soil Nail Expert' in preparation of EN14490.
He operated as a Director of Keller Ground Engineering for
18 years and now provides an International Consultancy Service to the Geotechnical
Industry. He has formed two companies, Single Bore Multiple Anchor Limited and Geoserve Global Ltd, both based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and SBMA LLC to make their ultra high capacity anchor system available on a world-wide basis.
He has published widely on all matters concerning ground anchorages in general and single bore multiple anchors in particular. Details of his technical papers can be found on this web site and many are available for downloading. Additional papers will be added periodically.

Latest news :
JULY 2007 A prestigious anchor contract has been awarded to Keller Austria for motorway stabilisation between Graz and Vienna. In lieu of the 400 No 150T working load anchors Keller's alternative bid to install 200 No 360T working load SBMA's was accepted. Preliminary trials on the short high capacity encapsulation system will be initially required. However having previously achieved over 460T in gunbarrel tests on a single 2.3m long SBMA encapsulation no problems are anticipated. Each production anchor will consist of three unit anchors and the overall anchor lengths are 100m!
JUNE 2007 Anchors removed from under Hyde Park - the new multi-million pound penthouses at 1 Hyde Park required temporary high capacity removable anchors in London Clay for basement support. Over 100 anchors were installed by Keller and are currently being removed using a 10T winch. No problems are being encountered in removing all the looped strands from the patented SBMA anchors.
